Here is a listing of the individual research groups that meet regularly and are open to CS 793 students for Spring 2026.

  1. Algorithms, mathematical physics & free probability: Juspreet S. Sandhu will be running a reading-group this semester and the next (starting on August 27) meeting weekly on Wednesdays from 10 AM – 12 PM in his office (376, Computer Science building). Ewan will also join. The goal of the reading group is to get proficient with the fundamental definitions & properties of statistical physics models, followed by a deep dive into some of the techniques used to study them. Then, we wish to apply these to design algorithms (or prove hardness) for computational tasks in many-body classical & quantum spin systems.
  2. Extended Reality, Brain-Computer Interfaces, & Adaptive Interfaces Research Dr. Francisco Ortega will be hosting a CS 793 Research Group focusing on augmented reality, virtual reality, Brain-Computer Interfaces, and adaptive interfaces. Our research agenda encompasses traditional AR/VR topics, adaptive interfaces, XR privacy, and the intersection of AI and XR, among other areas. While we are not primarily an AI lab, we are increasingly integrating AI into both 3D user interfaces and non-3DUI applications.   3. Nathaniel Blanchard is hosting a CS 793 Research Group exploring the foundations of trustworthy human-AI interaction through the lens of multimodal perception and user modeling. We examine papers on explainable computer vision, dialogue and gesture recognition in collaborative settings, cognitive-affective state detection, and the design of AI systems that both understand what users are doing and infer the users’ intent for doing it. Paper topics will broadly relate to the goal of developing metacognitively-aware AI partners (e.g., robust neural network representations, collaboration dynamics). The papers, and subsequent discussion, will emphasize how multimodal technical approaches (e.g., computer vision, NLP) enable meaningful human-computer partnerships in real-world contexts. Fall 2025 meetings occur Mondays 3-5 PM in CSB 305.
  4. Software Engineering Research Group: Bianca Trinkenreich, Fabio de Abreu Santos, Ravi Mangal, and Sudipto Ghosh are hosting the SEGroup meetings on a variety of topics related to software engineering research. Please email ghosh@colostate.edu if you want to be added to the SEGroup in Teams. Fall 2025 meetings occur on every other Friday (Sept 5 through Dec 13) in CSB 305 and on Teams at 1-2 PM.
  5. Cybersecurity Research Group:  Indrajit Ray, Indrakshi Ray, Kyle Haefner, McKenna McCall, Viktoria Koscinski are hosting the Cybersecurity Research Group meetings (CS 793) on topics pertaining to security and privacy analysis using formal methods, IoT security and privacy, vulnerability assessment and risk analysis, cyber-resiliency, and AI security.   6. Computer Science Education Research Group: Marcia Moraes and Sudipto Ghosh are hosting the CS793 and CSEduGroup meetings on a variety of topics related to computer science education research.
