Course Materials

Course Description & Objectives

CT 301 introduces students to the C++ Language. In this course students will learn the fundamentals of modern C++. Students will learn how to write code, read and comprehend code, and develop a deeper understanding of the mechanics and depth of the C++ Language.

Assignments’ Description

Assignments in this course are 2 weeklong coding assignments. They are worth 10% of the final grade in the class. You can resubmit them as many times as needed but there is a 5 minute delay between submission and grading. Please keep this in mind and do not use the grader as your testing Script. You will lose points on Code reviews for not having your own code testing tools.

Course Policies (late assignments, make-up exams, revision policy, etc.)

Assignment Extensions/Make Up Work

These will rarely be given and only on a case-by-case basis.

Generally, if it is an emergency (Medical Absence, Family Incident, Car Breaks Down, Personal Emergency, etc.) then please contact the instructor with documentation of the incident anything with a date/time stamp or a signed document from a professional will work.

If you know you will be absent from an exam or during the due date of an assignment, please contact the instructor at least 72 hours prior to the due date or exam date. An extension or Alternative date for the exam can be considered, but a retroactive exam absence will not be allowed. Please provide documentation that shows the time conflict with the due date or exam date.

Late Policy

The Course has a 0 Tolerance Late Policy for Assignments. Once the due date passes for an Assignment the grade earned will remain. Unless a documented absence (See Above) is presented no extensions will be offered.

Exams do not have a Make Up Policy without a documented absence. Cases may be heard on a CASE BY CASE BASIS. But the general course policy is that a 0 will be earned on any missing exams.

Quizzes and Readings have a No Penalty Late Policy, however they are required to be completed before moving forward in the course. If you do not complete the Quizzes and Readings, you will not be able to move forward on assignments in the course until all missing work are completed in a weekly unit.

Academic Misconduct Policy

This course uses a Whitelist policy for what is allowed on assignments. The following are NOT considered Academic Misconduct to use on homework assignments

  • Any Material Found on the Course’s Canvas
  • Any Material Given in lecture
  • Cited Material from UTAs or the Instructor’s Office Hours
  • Anything from the Official Documentation Pages for C++ Documentation Website

Generative AI is allowed only on Homework Assignments in this course with documentation & citation of your Usage. Please preserve any and all forms of your usage of AI in relationship to your assignments in this course. You will be expected to provide your AI Logs for any related course usage in this course.

If you get your code from a non AI Source and not from any of the above Websites then you will be expected to cite the work you pulled your code from. For example if you used code referenced from a Stack Overflow post then you should cite that Stack Overflow post in your work to show where you got it from. You will only be

With this in mind the following are considered Academic Misconduct in this course:

  • Copying or Stealing code from another student current or previous
  • Using Generative AI in any form on an Exam or Quiz
  • Uploading any of the course’s contents to generative AI
    • Note when working on Homework assignments utilizing AI you should NEVER upload the assignment specifications directly to AI. This is considered illegal use of CSU’s Intellectual Property.

Academic Misconduct in any form is NOT tolerated in this course. If you are found at fault for Academic Misconduct in this course, you will be given an F and an Academic Misconduct report will be filed for the incident. Do not risk your entire grade for the chance at slightly better grade.

All cases of potential Academic Misconduct will be thoroughly investigated, and all students will be given a chance to meet with the instructor to discuss their case and provide documentation and evidence to support their work. Keep in mind that an Investigation does NOT guarantee that Academic Misconduct occurred, only that something was found suspect and deemed necessary to review.

The Instructor reserves the right to apply a lesser penalty in appropriate cases on a case by case basis

Grading Policy

Assignments are due at 11:59 PM (MST). Assignments are graded upon submission and have a 10 minute grading delay between Submission and feedback to prevent abuse of the grading system.

There are no Late or Make Up assignments in this course. Once the due date passes the assignment closes and no further attempts may be made on the assignment.

If you have conflict with a due date please contact the professor at least 72 hours prior to the due date with documentation of the time conflict. See the Assignment Extension Policy above.
